Analysis |
China has declared this spacewalk to be a peaceful endeavor; however other nations see this as a more aggressive maneuver. Since the United States and Russia are the only nations who have the technology to have a person walk in space, this mission, if completed, will create more tension between the three nations. Russia supplied China with a spacesuit for the mission.
As much as this can be seen as a tension builder between the United States, Russia and China, this also highlights Chinese prowess. The nation views this as a great milestone. This is the next step for China to develop a space station and eventually put a man on the moon. Currently, only the United States has been able to put a man on the moon. Russia has plans to do so by 2015. This circles back to the issue of tension between the three nations. There is a possibility that if the mission goes according to plan that China and Russia will race to see who can put a man on the moon first. A great power-struggle could be in the midst here, but whether or not tension develops will rely on the outcome of this mission and how China proceeds with the expansion of space technology. | |
