Title |
Pakistani Soldiers Free to Fight Back
| |
Summary |
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) based in Afghanistan performed air strikes against Pakistan at the border and killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. The Pakistan soldiers did not fight back because there was a communication error that prevented the all clear message to go through properly. Pakistan’s Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani stated that all soldiers have full permission to fight against any NATO member who creates a cross-border attack. He wants to make sure that in the event that NATO attacks again, all his soldiers are prepared and ready to stand up against them unlike the previous recent situation.

Analysis |
General Kayani allowing his troops to fight back without orders gives them freedoms to make their own decisions, which could end up poorly for the already intense border tension. This is from the realist perspective because Kayani is preparing his troops for more fighting and outbreak. He equipped each soldier with the weapons necessary for a strong attack against NATO should the need arise so he is not unprepared and perceived as weak again. The Pakistani Army is ready to fight back no matter the consequences due to NATO’s “act of aggression". The tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been increasingly bad so the General issued his statement. This is also a realist event because it shows the power that Kayani has over the Pakistani military and within international conflicts. He issued a statement and now the whole way the military was going about the situation is forever changed because with the troops have practically full free reign, things could get out of hand.
