Title |
Al-Qaeda is at it again
| |
Summary |
There were 2 attacks in Iraq on Thursday, a day in which Joe Biden was visiting Iraq officials to discuss the future of United States/Iraq relations. The two separate attacks killed 18 people in the northeastern Iraqi province of Diyala. One attack, a car bomb, exploded in a marketplace in a town called Khalis just as morning shoppers began to arrive. The other attack occurred as assailants stormed the house of a known anti-al-Qaeda lead in an area that was an al-Qaeda hotbed during 2004-2007. In the past 8 days, at least 56 Iraqis have been killed in separate attacks across the country.

Analysis |
The fact that these attacks seem to be resurging at this moment in history seems that al-Qaeda is making an attempt to show its dominance in the region. These attacks on people come as the vice president of the United States is making a visit to discuss US policy in Iraq coincide with American attacks to discuss future United States policy in Iraq. I think that these attacks show that al-Qaeda wants to draw the attention to themselves while there are numerous news camera, before a final policy decision in made concerning the United States. Or course, these attacks could just be al-Qaeda’s way of telling the possible new leaders that they are going to continue to be a major player in the struggle for power in Iraq.
