Title |
Syria in full blown civil war; crack down leaves thousands dead as two protest groups unite
| |
Summary |
Syria’s protests have stepped up as thousands are killed while the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, characterizes the situation as a civil war. Protests have been going on since March. The Syrian National Council (SNC) has organized with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) to oppose President Al-Assad. Both the SNC and FSA has come to an agreement that they will only use military force to defend civilians and not for offensive tactics.

Analysis |
Syria’s civil war is once again proof that the Arab Spring is going strong. With the coordination between the SNC and the FSA, the protests have gotten much stronger. Though they have agreed to not use weapons for any offensive moves the protestors will receive more support for that adoption of non-violence. If Al-Assad continues to use violence to quell the protests while the protestors use non-violent means then the international community will step in even quicker. They will form a coalition as was the case with Libya, and bring down Al-Assad. This additional support could only be gained by uniting and committing to non-violence.
