Title |
Iranian-UK relations hit the rocks
| |
Summary |
Relations between the UK and Iran have hit the rocks, what the Iranian government called protesters stormed the UK embassy in Tehran and ransacked the premises and stole personal items and files, among other things. Immediately following this, the UK ordered closure of the Iranian embassy in London and for the Iranian embassy worked to be out of the UK within 48 hours. German followed suite and temporarily pulled out their ambassador in Iran in accordance with the UK and its goals to support them and safekeeping of their citizens. These attacks follow the imposition of further sanctions on the Iranian nuclear program.

Analysis |
“Some degree of regime consent” was present in the ransacking said the UK foreign secretary William Hague. This is just further escalation of hostility between Iran and the UK. Allied with the UK, the United States of America has not had diplomatic relations with Iran since 1979 and this seems to be the direction that Iran will be heading with the UK if it does not cede to the UN sanctions and stop testing the possible nuclear weapons. This very much a realist issue and identity-ist issue because it shows that countries with the same goals and similar interests are willing to isolate Iran if they do not yield to the authority that the UN has and that it is better to tough it out and play with the other kids on the playground than it is to sit in the corner and covet its aging nuclear program out of spite to the world.
