Title
United States Troops to Occupy Northern Australia
Summary
United States President Barack Obama recently announced the deployment of Marines to Australia. China has been growing closer to its neighbors economically. There is also wariness over the State’s growing military power. Since China is be preparing to stretch over its borders, the United States has been working to secure its own foot in the door of the Pacific. The United States is attempting to strengthen its alliance with Australia. President Obama announced that the deployment of Marines to Northern Australia was meant to emphasize the desire for a greater, “co-operation,” with the State.
Analysis
The United States has kept watch over China’s growth and seems to be taking precautions to counter it. The United States already has ties with many other Pacific Ocean countries by positioning troops. Australia would join Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines by becoming an occupation zone for American troops. All of these countries neighbor China. Since China is growing so rapidly economically and militarily, it seems only wise that the United States has holding on many of China’s neighbors. By keeping strong alliances with these States, the United States is guaranteeing itself support in case China begins to challenge the United States as a world power. As the United States gains more power in the Pacific, the chance for China to gain is hindered.
