Title |
Eleven Killed In Yemen
| |
Summary |
Yemeni soldiers shelled civilian neighborhoods in Taiz, the second largest city in Yemen and a center for protest against President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Analysis |
Saleh has been feeling a great deal of pressure lately both domestically and from abroad, specifically the United Nations in the form of official visits and France has discussed attempting to freeze the President’s assets through the European Union. The Saleh administration’s choice to attack civilians in Taiz with mortar and armor fire is motivated by a sense of desperation as public support for his administration has clearly been eroded by the vigorous protests occurring in Yemen and surrounding countries and as the international community continues to press for his resignation.
