Title
Iranian Nuclear Threat?
Summary
Just a few days ago, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) gave a report that claimed that Iran’s nuclear program may be geared towards the manufacture of nuclear weapons. After Iran’s first nuclear powerplant powered up recently, there has been a growing fear that the government may be using it to begin a nuclear weapons program. The fear and allegations have come from some states in the region, such as Israel, and several western powers. Iranian offcials have denied all the allegations that they are trying to produce nuclear weapons, and have said that these allegations are being made up so that the United States and its allies can justify some kind of military action against Iran.
Analysis
If Iran is trying to make nuclear weapons, then there could be some serious problems. Many are now worried that Israel, Iran’s main enemy in the region, will take some kind of military action to stop the nuclear program. Some are also worried that the United States is considering some form of military strike to halt the program. Iran has already promised some kind of retaliation against any country that attacks them. Any country that risks attacking Iran also risks uniting the people of Iran behind the idea of the need of the nuclear weapons to protect Iran. This has the potential to further destabilize the region by risking another war, particularly between Israel and Iran, two countries that have been at odds for some time. Throw in Iran’s dislike of the United States and you have a very volatile mix of firepower and opposing views.
