Title
Violence in Syria Continues
Summary
On wednesday, Syria agreed to an Arab league plan to withdraw troops from its cities, and to release political prisoners. Protestors say that President Bashar al-Assad has done neither. After several months of protests that have called for the Syrian President to stand down, he apparently agreed to an Arab league plan to withdraw the military from the cities, to release prisoners, and to open talks with the opposition. Renewed violence on wednesday and thursday shows that Assad shows to intentions to do so as several more people were killed, particularly in the city oh Homs.
Analysis
It seems that Assad has taken the hard line to try and put down the protesters in Syria. Syria is included with the arab spring, as the protests call for the removal of the president began months ago. It also seems that the protesters have the supports of some outside powers. The Arab league has called for a plan to remove troops from the city, and the European Union has called for the removal of President Assad, and threaten to enforce more sanctions on syria if he refuses. Assad is playing a risky game. By taking the route of using the military to try and put down protesters, he is risking full blown civil war, much like the situation th Gadafi faced in Libya.
