Title |
US-Israeli Prisoner Released from Egyptian Custody
| |
Summary |
Ilan Grapel, a US-Israel citizen, was released from Egyptian custody after being arrested as a spy in June. Israel agreed to exchange 25 Egyptian prisoners for the return of Grapel. None of the Egyptian prisoners released were any sort of security threat to Israel. Whether or not Grapel was actually a spy is still up to speculation.

Analysis |
Israel and Egypt have been rivals for some time. This exchange proves that relations between these two countries can be improved upon. When two rivals are able to put aside differences for even just a moment they prove that they are capable of getting along and therefore capable of eventual peace. This exchange also proves that Cairo’s new government is still able to run the country and provide for the good of their people.
