Analysis |
The preliminary attacks by al-Shabab have struck terror in many parts of Kenya. The attacks have heavily damaged Kenya’s tourist industry. Kenya’s offensive has not seen much success in the war torn Somalia. The offensive has been hindered by weather and opposing al-Shabab loyalists. This isn’t unlike many other countries who tried to send troops into Somalia. It has proven to be a difficult place for foreign countries to send troops. Countries such as the United States, Canada, and Ethiopia have seen similar devastating results. Also, the military offensive has stopped much need humanitarian aid from coming into Somalia. Al-Shabab is fighting the African Union peacekeepers and has vowed to continue to attack Kenya. The conflict on all sides seems to have no real solution as Kenya tries to protect its interest in the region.
