ETA Make Public Announcement About Ending Terrorism

Summary |
Last Friday, the Euskadi Ta Askatasuna announced in a public statement that it would be ending its terrorist activity. The announcement came two days after a UN peace conference. ETA support is declining and there have been many members of the ETA arrested. The Euskadi Ta Askatasuna killed over 800 people in Spain and parts of France in their campaign.

Analysis |
The ETA knew it was declining in power, so the groups way of negotiating and keeping what little power they have left was to make a public statement that it was stopping its deadly actions. Another negotiation of the public announcement is that the ETA is prepared to speak with the French and Spanish government over ending Europe’s last major guerrilla conflict. Spain hopes that will the ETA loss of power and halt of terrorist activity.
