Title
The Ennahda Party is Expected to Win Elections in Tunisia
Summary
Tunisia, the country in which the Arab Spring began, is celebrating the end of a peaceful election. Indicators show that the moderate Islamic group Ennahda will soon have power. Ennahda is said to be modeled after the party of Prime Minister Erdoğan of Turkey. The elections took place with no violence. This is a positive sign of a peaceful transition to a new, more democratic government.
Analysis
Similar governments tend to identify and often align with one another. The relationships between democracies tend to be examples of this statement. Tunisia recently held a democratic election after President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali fell from his 23 year reign. Being that it is now a more democratic government, it should find more alliances with other governments of this nature. The government of Turkey may be one of those alliances. The winning party, Ennahda, is said to be modeled after the Turkish party in power. This sharing of ideologies, as well as their similar governments, could bring the two governments together.
