Title
Israel is at it again
Summary
Just over a week after Israel and Palestine negotiated a prisoner exchange, Israel and Egypt are negotiating a prisoner exchange as well. Israel said on Thursday that it is getting ready to trade captured Egyptian nationals for an US-Israeli dual nationality citizen suspected of spying. Ilan Grapel was captured in Cairo in June and was suspected of trying to harm Egyptian economic and political interests. Israel denied all of the charges levied against Grapel. The deal, which is reported to be for 81 Egyptian prisoners, has not been finalized but is expected to be agreed on this week.
Analysis
The fact that this is the 2nd time in 2 weeks that Israel has negotiated such a lopsided prisoner exchange is something to really think about. One could possibly assume that Israel’s recent exchanges have been an effort to repair and strengthen the bonds with its bordering neighbors. Though, with all of the recent discord among citizens resulting in riots throughout it‘s general surrounding area, this could also be seen as an attempt of Israel to try and keep its citizens happy. Perhaps this is also an attempt by current Israeli leaders to try and persuade voters that they are the right combination of people to keep in power. Whatever the reason, there are now a lot of families along the Mediterranean coastline.
