Title |
Women Will Get the Chance
| |
Summary |
The King of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, allowed for a change in the law which was giving the women the right to run for a political office and then hold that political position. This stunned conservative Muslims, but when the Saudi Arabian women heard the news they turned to social media sites to discuss further issues. They want the right to drive which is currently a very important hot topic for women in Saudi Arabia. Rather than praising the King for allowing the right to run in elections, they viewed him with disappointment for ignoring the popular and more prominent issue.

Analysis |
In a very conservative Islamic nation, the King of Saudi Arabia was trying to move the country forward to allow for more cooperation with women. Islam does not allow women to do much of anything alone, so this step was a huge step forward toward further prosperity. However the women were not thrilled with the outcome of the King’s decision. They questioned and shared on social media how they are still looking for more rights such as the right to drive. This would allow for better interdependence of women by them being able to drive around instead of waiting for a male to escort them around. Saudi Arabia will still be prosperous with the addition of women potentially in the political races or on the ballot, but not as prosperous and secure as they could be if women could also drive. The women are finally getting some freedom and are taking it as far as they can on social media to attempt to get even more rights.
