| |
Summary |
Government and Business officials from both India and Pakistan have recently agreed to double the amount of trade in the next three years to $6 billion. As part of the new trade agreement India and Pakistan are planning to allow easier access to visas for business people, to open banks in each other’s countries, and to improve trade routes in Southwest Asia

Analysis |
This agreement is an important step for the two countries, which have fought four wars since 1947. Moreover, there has been increased tension in the region since 2008 when a Pakistani gunman killed 166 people Mumbai, India. After this attack, existing trade relations between the two countries were damaged. The delegation from Pakistan is led by the Pakistani Commerce Minster and marks the first visit of this nature in thirty years. Both countries are committed to continue to work together on trade relationships in the future. As the countries accomplish greater trade relationships, this will lead towards peace and greater diplomatic relations between the two.
