Title
Will Saleh ever leave?
Summary
The President of Yemen, Ali Abudullah Saleh, has recently returned to Yemen and is resistant to give up power. While he stayed in Saudi Arabia due to an assassination attempt, Saleh agreed to step down from presidency, but has yet to do so which is creating conflict and fighting amongst the protesters and Saleh’s security forces. Pro-Democracy protesters are trying to end the Saleh regime but Saleh is not ready to give up power. Saudi Arabian tanks and weapons were sent to Yemen to aid Saleh in the fight against the activists. Many protesters have died and are asking for intervention from the West.
Analysis
Saleh is not ready to leave his regime behind which is causing the current rebellion of Pro-Democracy protesters. The protesters are fighting against not only Saleh but also the intervention from Saudi Arabia with their tanks and additional support in this conflict because of how many rebels have been killed within the last six days alone. This conflict has been occurring for months now and tensions continue to increase due to the wide range of conflict across Yemen. Saleh is not yet ready to give up power which causes increased conflict, and from the German article Wandinger believes that if Saleh were to peacefully step down the conflicts would desist and power would balance again in Yemen. Currently the civilians of Yemen are unprotected and the most peaceful way to end this conflict would be Saleh following through with his word and ending his presidency.
