Title |
Putin to run for Prime Minister
| |
Summary |
Earlier this week, Vladimir Putin indicated that he may run for Prime Minister in the upcoming Russian elections. Putin is ineligible for a third term as president, and must therefore find other means for affecting policy. It is believed by some that he may have ulterior motives, since he does specifically state that the new president must be “a person with whom I work as a team,” i.e. someone who will follow his lead.

Analysis |
In the past, President Bush has led the American public to believe Putin is an ally working with the U.S. toward similar goals. In light of recent events and Putin’s policies, it seems that this is not the case, and that Putin is trying to lead Russia back to a communist, single party regime. Due to the fact that Russia has the capacity to become a super-power, the U.S. should keep a close watch on the upcoming election in Russia, as well as Putin’s policy implementations.
