Analysis |
According to Reuters News Agency 181,000 German Catholics became secular or left the church in the past year. This means that the same region who produced the most famous Protestant is now furthering the distance between themselves and the Roman Catholic Church. Despite the Pope vehemently condemning the priests who were involved in child abuse scandals, much of the German Catholic population left because of the alleged cover ups. German Catholics also do not agree with the Church’s intolerance of homosexuality, abortion and birth control which caused some of its members to leave the Church or become secular all together. All in all, with Germany becoming more tolerant of these issues and the Catholic Church staying hard on these issues, expect more German Catholics to leave the church.
