Analysis |
The opposing political groups have been pressuring the military government to announce a time table for the return to civilian rule, but none of the opposing parties are calling for an expeditious turn over, many of the groups are still calling for more time to regroup and gain greater political strength to make a more considerable difference in the elections results. But many of the groups in Egypt also fear that the disbanded National Democratic Party (NDP) will reemerge for the coming election. Former President Mubarak’s political party this time will be mostly likely supported by wealthy Egyptian businessmen who were prosperous and very influential with the NDP in control of the government and commerce. Another group that’s also plotting for control of the government is the currently reigning military government who wants the parliament to be without a majority or strong plurality so the army can continue to wield influence and protect its broad business interests. The power of the government is up for grabs in the coming election and many groups are bidding for the control.
