Amazon Relief

Summary |
Norway is planning to give Brazil one billion dollars in order to preserve the Amazon rain forest. Norway is a member of a newly formed Amazon preservation fund. This fund will be used to stop logging and farming industries from destroying the Amazon. Norway’s donation will be paid in increments, corresponding with the decline and hopeful rid of deforestation in the area. One outcome that the preservation fund hopes to accomplish is to decrease greenhouse gas emissions which cause global warming.

Analysis |
This new Amazon preservation fund is a collective idea that is trying to stamp out the fear of global warming. The main notion in decreasing this fear is to decrease greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. Brazil is at the top of the list for states that emit an alarming amount of emissions. 400 million tons of carbon dioxide enter the atmosphere every year because of Brazil. This number has caught the interest of many states that are planning on giving aid to the newly formed fund.
The reason for these emissions is the large amount of logging and farming performed in the Amazon rain forest. Focusing on the loggers, they are increasing global warming in two ways. However, loggers do not have the idea of purposely increasing global warming. Their thoughts are solely concerned with making money. As for the two ways loggers are increasing global warming, one is that the loggers are cutting down trees that rid the air of carbon dioxide. Trees can be thought of as air purifiers. They help prevent global warming. The other way loggers are increasing global warming is that the loggers are also burning logs that create the greenhouses gases. The actions of the loggers are going against the universal belief that it is right to respect and protect our world.
The new preservation fund is also protecting the identity of the Amazon rain forest. What will the Amazon be called when all the trees are cut down? One may think that this could never happen, but 20% of the rain forest is already destroyed. Thinking ahead, Norway is not just throwing money at Brazil. They are donating the money in increments based on the action taken on deforestation. This idea is sure to start a decline in logging and farming in the Amazon. It is too early to say that logging will cease to exist in the Amazon, but the collective idea of starting a rain forest fund will lead the way in trying to make that happen. | |
