Analysis |
Tensions between Egypt and Israel amplified after a cross-border attack last month. Egypt has received aid from the United States since 1979 and has to balance public calls for a tougher line against Israel with a need to keep on good terms with the United States. Both Egypt and Israel have said they want to return to common diplomatic behavior. Egypt has promised to guard the embassy as demanded by Israel and the United States.
