Title
19 Killed in Iraq
Summary
On Wednesday, 19 people were killed in an attacks against what appears to be Iraqi security forces in central and western Iraq. This was accompanied by 50 wounded and is only the latest in a series of similar acts of terrorism. The deadliest attack on Wednesday occurred when a car bomb exploded by a restaurant that was a common eatery for security force members in the town of Medhatiyah. The others were killed in a bus that was on the way to an air force base in Habbaniyah. This violence most likely is a result of the deliberation between the United States and the Iraqi government on whether or not Americas 47,000 troops still stationed in Iraq should be moved out and if so how quickly. Iraqi officials believe that although they think they can hold a sense of internal security, they don’t believe they hold the capability to secure there border.
Analysis
The Iraqi insurgents are violently lashing out upon the Iraqi security forces because they are looking to regain/takeover some of the power that will be present if U.S. presence leaves or is severely limited. The insurgents have been fighting against the U.S. military ever since U.S. invaded Iraq and took over most of the power as well as showed the largest military presence in the country for over the last five years. During this time, the insurgents have been struggling to reclaim some power that they either believe is theirs to have or feel that it was there power to begin with. Now that there is the debate/possibility that American presence may be greatly reduced or all together gone, they see it as an opportunity to replace America as the one holding all the power in Iraq, and if America does leave, there competition will no longer be the U.S. solders, but the Iraqi security forces who are supposed to take the reins of there country and hold the majority of the power.
