Analysis |
The United States and Great Britain have pledged to give Zimbabwe financial aid to help fight the cholera epidemic that has killed many in its country. The United States agreed to give $600,000 through USAID in addition to the 4 million it has already given, bringing the total of US funds to Zimbabwe to be 220 million since October of 2007. Great Britain has agreed to give 10 million pounds.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has claimed that Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has failed Zimbabwe countless times, this being the most devastating to its people. Until last week, Mugabe’s government claimed they were in control of the crisis and offered little aid to its people besides encouraging them to stop shaking hands. The cholera epidemic and the handling of it it is just another example of Mugabe loss on control over his country. Although Mugabe has been in power for 28 years, many African leaders has called upon one another to help remove him from power.
