Title |
Settlers clash with Israeli Police
| |
Summary |
Israeli forces have evicted some 200 settlers from a building known as the “house of peace,” in the town of Hebron. Israeli forces recently stormed the house after settlers refused an order by the Israeli Supreme Court to leave the house until the residence’s proper owner could be identified. This resistence, following days of simmering hostility between Palestinian and Settler groups, caused the Israeli army to act. Once in place they were able to remove the antagonistic settlers from the residence within thrity minutes with minimal casualties.
However, after the settlers had been removed from the house, they proceeded to set fire to Palestinian cars and property. Several Palestinians were hurt and four settlers were arrested.

Analysis |
This latest clash between Palestinians and Israeli settlers has highlighted several important factors about the actors involved in the Israel-Palestine issue. One of the first factors that should be noted is that this conflict between settlers and Palestinians is over who has rightful ownership of the property within the territory. This debate, however, is affected by the cultural divide between the two groups, who are unwilling to compromise their positions. This inability to come to an agreement over how to determine who properly owns the land is what is one of the main components of the conflict within the area.
The second factor that the identity perspective allows us to identify is the conflict between the Israeli government and Israeli settlers. These settlers have support amongst people within Israel, however, their position in the West Bank territories compromises the governments position. Their settling in an area that the government has no legal control over has caused numerous problems for Israel. It is these tensions between the settler groups and Palestinians that forced the government to act, against those who are ostensibly their own people.
