Title
Iran Tests Long-Range Missiles
Summary
On Wednesday, Iran successfully tested new long-range missiles that had a range up to 1,200 miles and that were stated to have been fully developed in Iran. Iran assured that the new long-range missiles would only be used defensively and that they would only be used as in a deterrent policy for peace and security within the Middle Eastern region.
Analysis
While creating long-range missiles does provide Iran with extra security and power within the Middle Eastern region, it also creates a security dilemma. In this security dilemma, other countries will feel threatened by Iran’s ‘defensive’ technology, especially because of its long-ranged capabilities and Iran’s use of force over the Middle Eastern region through such weapons. Even though a missile would certainly reassure Iran of their place in the nuclear arms race and ensure a greater sense of security, Iran’s actions have caused other countries to consider what they can do to protect themselves from a possible attack. The United States, who started putting in an antimissile shield in Europe, even amid strong opposition from Russia, will most likely continue on this route because of the capabilities of Iran that have been shown through these missiles. Any country who is not in favor with Iran will be worried over their safety because of these long-range missiles and will possible build up their own security systems to counteract Iran.
