Analysis |
Less than twenty-four hours after the elections in the United States, President Medvedev gave his State of the Nation address. In it he let the new administration know that he meant business and that Russia will not let the new administration do anything it desires. The missile defense systems proposed by the Bush administration to be established in Poland and the Czech Republic, are said to be defense against Iran’s threat. However, such systems, or weapons, are never purely defensive and with the close proximity to Russia, they do pose quite a threat. And with relations between the two states where they are, it does seem like a power threat. It makes perfect sense then that President Medvedev has threatened to install tactical weapons around Kaliningrad. Only time will tell how this pans out. If the two states become too power-hungry, the world could have another Cold War within a couple of years.
