Analysis |
This situation presents a case in which the United States is holding true to the actual name ‘War on Terror’ by attacking terrorists from inside the Syrian border. While the United States views the Syrian border with Iraq as a potential threat towards security the of Iraq, Syria views the United State’s actions as threatening. These raids will further strain the relationship between the United States and Syria, continued from when the United States claimed that Syria was failing to stop militants from entering Iraq.
Even with the potential that the raids might stop a few terrorists from entering Iraq, the United States loses its control over the region, especially when a neighboring country decides to protest the actions of the United States. This could suggest that the aim for control of the middle east, in order to create government and infrastructure stability would be undermined if influence from a closer state could prevent stability from occurring.
Syria’s non-cooperation with the United States on creating secure Iraqi borders means that the United States will have an extremely difficult task of maintaining their goals for Iraq and preventing any chance for Iraq to be a stable Middle Eastern nation as it could fall apart in the future.
