Title |
Iraqi Bombs shatter Ramadan calm
| |
Summary |
In a shopping street in Baghdad two car bombs exploded killing 6 and wounding 20. A suicide bomber in Basra killed three and wounded twenty on Tuesday. These instances are becoming more common as the inter-Shia conflict between the Al-Mahdi army, the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, and the Fadhila Party.

Analysis |
There are two outlying details that make these instances very important to us as far as our withdrawal strategy is concerned. Since the suicide bomber exploded outside the police station killing three it is definitive of the ongoing security ineffectiveness by Iraqi police which can only prolong our overall tour of duty in the state. The target of the bombing also infers that there are radicals who will increasingly interfere with any attempts to unite Sunnis and Shiites, a problem which could lead to greater conflict in the newly-created government as far as ethnic leadership is concerned.
Finally, it should be noted that attacks in the area have greatly increased since the British troops left that area early September. It could be said that the same could happen anywhere in Iraq once our forces are withdrawn.
