Title |
Qassam Rockets fired into Israel
| |
Summary |
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak decided to close the Gaza Strip crossings yesterday. This order was made after a Qassam rocket was said to have hit Western Negev. Whether or not there was a rocket is disputable. Israeli sources say that there was a malfunction in the alert system; however, international sources claim that there was an attack. Either way this would be the second Qassam rocket attack in ten days in this region.

Analysis |
Tensions are rising between the people in the Gaza Strip and the people in Israel. Within ten days, two rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel. The group that has taken responsibility for the attacks is Hezbollah Palestine, a little known group. The Defense Minister’s decision came just one month before the end of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the militant groups in the Gaza Strip. Since the agreement was reached on June 19th of this year, attacks have decreased dramatically. With this new complication, it is unknown whether or not Israel and Gaza will be able to reach another agreement regarding ceasefire. It would be in everyone’s best interest to work out the issue because Israel will keep blockading Gaza as long as it feels it needs to and the militants in Gaza will keep firing into Israel until they are satisfied. Israel and the militant groups need to meet and make another agreement in order to stop the fighting.
