Title
NATO in Afghanistan
Summary
NATO seeks to stop funding of insurgency by drug lords and narcotics trafficers in Afghanistan. The poppy culivation industry fuels terrorism and supports insurgents through funding of terrorists by drug lords. The Afghani government cannot decrease the problems caused within their country, not only the funding of insurgency, by the drug trade and cultivation of poppies within their country.
Analysis
The introduction of NATO forces with the intent of fighting insurgency support indicats a move from the United States and other NATO countries to take measures to eradicate insurgency groups from the tribal areas of afghanistan. Fighting the drug lords will potentially cut ties between drug lords and insurgency groups and any monetary support that is given to these groups by the leaders of the narcotics industry.
The acknowledgement of the Afghani government of the serious problem of the narcotics trafficing and poppy production and their lack of force needed to eradicate this problem. If NATO forces are fighting these drug lords and narcotics trafficers, as they are a main source of support for insurgency groups, the NATO countries threatened by terrorism are effectively ‘drowning’ the insurgency groups from receiving funds and using the weapons they receive to terrorize NATO countries such as the United States, Great Britian, and Spain.
This strategy is meant to be a means of proactive defense for NATO countries while exerting control over the insurgency groups in Afghanistan through preventing funding from reaching them.
